Seattle Mariners sign big names but support remains a question

Can signing one of the best players in baseball and the hottest free agent available launch a team from prolonged mediocrity to contention in a stacked American League West? The Mariners sure hope so.
Seattle hasn’t finished with a winning record since 2009 and hasn’t made the playoffs since winning 116 games in 2001. Since then, six managers have roamed the dugout in a Mariners uniform, and new skipper Lloyd McClendon will be the seventh.
